Fitness, Wellness and Wellbeing…What’s the difference?

As a company that specialises in creating digital fitness and wellness content we thought this one would be an appropriate topic for us to get our teeth stuck into…It’s important to understand the difference between fitness, wellness and wellbeing because they often get confused with each other. So let’s look at them individually in a bit more detail…

What is Fitness? Physical fitness is defind as a person’s ability to execute daily activities with optimal performance, endurance, and strength with the management of disease, fatigue, and stress and reduced sedentary behavior.

Fitness is a component of wellness, but it’s not the whole picture. While physical fitness is important for overall health and well-being, other aspects like mental health also play a role in how you feel about yourself and your ability to live your best life.

Fitness can be defined as the measure of your ability to perform physical activities.

Wellness includes fitness, but it also includes other aspects of health such as stress level, nutrition, sleep and self-esteem.

Wellness refers more broadly than just physical health; it encompasses all aspects of being: mental, emotional and spiritual wellness as well as physical fitness.

What is Wellbeing? Wellbeing encompasses both wellness and fitness and the broader holistic (or “whole-listic”) dimensions of a well-lived life. The main five elements of wellbeing that add up to a thriving life are:

  • Career wellbeing: You like what you do every day.
  • Social wellbeing: You have meaningful friendships in your life.
  • Financial wellbeing: You manage your money well.
  • Physical wellbeing: You have energy to get things done.
  • Community wellbeing: You like where you live.

So there you have it, your overall health is a combination of physical, mental, social and spiritual Well-being that emcompasses fitness and wellness.
